CNN’s FitNation 2008 Summit in NYC

Posted in: Inspiration |

As promised, I have a special announcement for you guys today.  Yours truly is being flown into NYC on next Monday to participate in this year’s CNN FItNation Summit.  To tell you the truth, I’m still in shock over all of this.  First, the interview and seeing myself on national TV was absolutely insane, and now I’m going to be able to meet folks like Rachael Ray, Eric Shanteau, and Jillian Michaels.  Needless to say, I’m pretty stoked about the whole thing because I’m more than happy to spread my philosophy of KISS (Keep It Sweet & Simple) in training and diet to as many folks that will listen.  Fellas, don’t worry because I’m going to make you proud. Martial Arts and Bodyweight Exercises

Posted in: Training |

You know, sometimes I don’t think you guys realize how hooked I am on doing bodyweight exercises.  I literally scour the web for sites and articles related to this type of training because I plan on living for a while, and I’ll need different exercises to keep my routines fresh.  Also, I want to show you how much FREE information is available about doing exercises that will not only keep you feeling young, but you’ll have a younger looking physique too.  So, I’ve decided to post a link to a great article by a martial artist named Craig Stovall.  This is a very simpIe site; nevertheless, I really like the way he describes each exercise with a hint of what has personally worked for him .  Let me know what you think …

“What is True Physical Fitness” by Jon Hinds

Posted in: Inspiration, Training |

There are very few folks that I give the label human-dynamo to, and Jon Hinds, founder and owner of the Monkey Bar Gym, is one of theme.  Along with folks like Steve Cotter and Steve Maxwell, Jon Hinds travels around the country re-igniting the concept of using your bodyweight to build functional strength that will carry over into your everday life.  I found this short, but very informative, article on answering the question, “What Is True Physical Fitness?” enlightening.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think …

“What is True Physical Fitness”

What does it mean to be truly physically fit? Feeling physically fit is definitely different for each individual. Some people feel physical fitness is the ability to bench press 300 lbs, other people say it’s making it through a full hour aerobics class, or completing a 5k run. To me, true physical fitness is the ability to do all of these things and more, at any time. It’s the ability to instantaneously run and jump, push and pull, climb, catch, and react. You are truly physically fit when you are connected to your body in such a way that you can do anything you want to do. (more…)

“Building an Olympic Body through Bodyweight Conditioning” by Coach Sommer

Posted in: Training |

As I blogged about last Thursday, Coach Christopher Sommer has finally finished writing his book, Building the Gynmastic Body.  I pre-ordered my copy as soon as I received his email, and now I’m just waiting like a kid on Christmas eve for the book to arrive because I like his approach (bodyweight only routines) and writing style (relaxed and to the point).  Since I know that many of you are not familiar with Coach Sommer, I’ve decided to re-post the article that really started all the buzz in fitness forums all across the net.  If after reading this article you are not convinced that you can build the body that you’ve always wanted with bodyweight only exercises, then I don’t know what to tell ya …. ;-)

We have all seen them on television during the Olympics; these powerful men performing amazing skills with ease and grace. Watching them perform the question inevitably arises - are they as powerful as they look? And the answer is - yes. What will probably be even more surprising to you is that they build their strength and physiques almost entirely with various bodyweight exercises. (more…)
