Fat Virus Test Kits For Only …

Posted in: Miscellaneous |

Guys, I’m not joking.  There is a test available that will let you know if you have Ad-36 or what’s usually called the fat virus.  But before I go into where you can get the test, let me give you some background info.

OK, I did a little research on the major players in this whole fat virus business, and what I found out was pretty interesting. (more…)

For Big Guys Who Run …

Posted in: Training |

After reading a post by my good buddy Israel over at his blog on his running for 1 hour straight on the treadmill, it made me think about the cardio I would perform when I was part of the 300+ pound club too.

My problem wasn’t running on a treadmill or even running in the streets.  I’ve never been that great of a runner even when I was closer to a “normal” size back in my teen years.  But, give me a tennis racket and you would see my attempt to transform myself into a “plump” Pete Sampras! (more…)

President Obama Pulling His Own Weight!

Posted in: Inspiration,Training |

Like most of you, I watched TV yesterday, along with the 1.5 million in DC, as the new President of the United States was sworn in.  Amidst the sea of red, white, and blue flags, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride in being Black and American.  I truly feel that our country has taken a huge step forward on the social front, and, as I travel internationally, maybe I can stop telling people that I’m Canadian . . .  :-P

No, seriously, whether you voted for President Obama or not, I do feel that there is a new infectious energy of hope and change that Americans are experiencing right now.  I just really wonder how long it will last?  Time will tell …

However, on the fitness front, I have to say that the President has issued a nice fitness challenge to all you guys out there:  pull your own weight!

Fellas, I think that this is a post you might want to bookmark or print out because what Ross discusses in this article is something that we all need to be mindful of.  As you start or continue on your fat loss journey, keep in mind the sage advice Ross gives below.  It’s not a short read, but it’s not terribly long either.  I just hope it makes as much of an impact on your current outlook on training as it has on mine.  Don’t forget to leave a comment . . .

The Power of Patience (Published in 2008)
By Ross Enamait -

As a trainer, I often emphasize the importance of intelligent program design. Variables such as exercise selection, intensity, frequency, and volume must be closely monitored. However, recognizing the need to oversee these variables is not enough. We as trainers are always looking to find better ways. We scour through monthly journals in search of new material that we can pass on to our athletes. It isn’t uncommon to spend several hours each week reading new research and rereading old research. This thirst for knowledge should be commended, as knowledge is a powerful weapon. I’ll never criticize anyone who is eager to learn and improve. Yet, as we search for new and improved methods for our athletes, we often forget to share seemingly obvious advice with them. (more…)

Judge Orders Infomercial Scam Artist to Pay More Than $37 Million…

Posted in: Miscellaneous |

A federal judge has ordered infomercial marketer Kevin Trudeau to pay more than $37 million for violating a 2004 stipulated order for the misleading content of his book, The Weight Loss Cure They Don’t Want You to Know About.  This guy, like all the other weight loss “snake oil” scam artists, really makes me sick!  Yes, I understand that the weight loss industry is a multi-billion dollar one, but do you have to tell flat out lies to sell your book?  Well, with Mr. Trudeau, who’s whose weight has yo-yo’d with every infomercial he’s done, this is clearly the case. In case you’re wondering, no this post is not about some “magical” protein shake’s latest flavor.  Don’t get me wrong, I use protein shakes everyday for their convenience and nothing more.  I’ve been reading different “weight” loss forums, and I hate to see folks fall for the whole “this protein shake is better because ….” scam.  That’s right, I’m calling it for what it is, and this is coming from someone who literally used Max Muscle’s High 5 and Max Pro protein powders exclusively for close to four years.  Hell, I bought so much protein that I got to know the owner so well that he eventually started selling his 5lb. tubs to me for only $44 instead of the usual $55.  Hey, I was a special customer, and I even had my VIP card that would get stamped with every purchase!

Well, after feeding my brain a bit more, I soon discovered that protein shakes are no more than gloried processed powdered milk.  Don’t fall for all of the words that you can’t pronounce without phonetically sounding them out in your head first (can you say, Hy-dro-lyze-d Wh-ey Pep-tid-es) or the paid bodybuilders on the label.   It’s all marketing fellas because you know we’re talking about a multi-billion dollar industry.
