Fat Virus Test Kits For Only …
Guys, I’m not joking. There is a test available that will let you know if you have Ad-36 or what’s usually called the fat virus. But before I go into where you can get the test, let me give you some background info.
OK, I did a little research on the major players in this whole fat virus business, and what I found out was pretty interesting.
First of all, the two main names that you’ll hear associated with this virus is Dr. Richard Atkinson and Dr. Nikhil Dhurandhar. When I first heard about the most recent story about Ad-36, I knew it sounded familiar. After a quick google search, I came across an article from 2004 in which Dr. Atkinson claimed to have “discovered” this new fat virus. In this 5 year-old article, I found that the number of obese subjects who had the virus was the same as the new research by Dr. Dhurandhar, which you can read about here.
I knew something was a bit odd, so when I found out that these two doctors have not only been publishing articles together about Ad-36 since 2000, but they, with the exception of a few of their research associates, are the only ones even publishing about this virus as a cause of obesity. Basically, no one else has been able to replicate their research, and since they are the ones that discovered this virus, it means that they have a patent on .. you guessed it … the all important test to check and see if you have the virus.
Oh, you didn’t think that these guys were just philanthropic researchers who are concerned about battling the obesity epidemic did you? Well, let me introduce you to Obetech, LLC, which is a company started by … that’s right … Dr. Richard Atkinson and the other scientists who discovered this virus. Even though the site doesn’t directly state it, I tink it’s safe to assume that Dr. Dhurandhar is probably part of Obetech too .
From the company’s website, it explains that,
Obetech has the technology to test humans for Ad-36 antibodies. A positive test means that a person has been exposed to this virus and the infection may have contributed to weight gain or difficulty maintaining a healthy weight. Normal weight people who have a positive test may be at risk for developing obesity, so they should see their primary care provider to institute a program of healthy eating, daily physical activity, and if indicated, treatment with drugs to prevent weight gain.
So, how much does one of these kits cost?
I tell you what, I’m not going to tell you because I want you to go to their order form and see for yourself. Oh, and you’ll have to look for the price because it’s not posted in the most obvious place on their order form.
Once you see the price, why not come back and leave a comment to let me know what you think …

Bill, you don’t need to be a PhD to give a damn good idea. On this 29th day of January 2009, I officially patent the secret to fat loss, and I’m going to call it …. hum … the energy balance equation LOL! Hey, I’ve got my suspicions that there was a corner Chinese Food joint in my neighborhood that sold the best Beef & Broccoli, but it was frequented by all the big guys. And I bet one of those bastards passed Ad-36 on to me …

A., sorry I had to edit your comment, but I really want folks to go to the order form to see the price of this much needed test! Anyway, I responded the same way you did, with a few colorful words sprinkled in here and there …

Ha ha. I won’t spoil it by writing about the price here. Classic. Especially since if you test positive you just have to do what you have to do if you are fat and don’t have the virus.
This made my day.
Great post.

Thanks Casey, I didn’t even look far enough into their site to see what the possible “cure” for this virus is. So, the 30% of the obese folks who have this virus need to do the same work to lose the fat that the uninfected 70% have to do too . . . You’ve gotta love a great scam!

WOW — thanks for shedding light on this! I had been wondering about the reports on the news pertaining to this

Whoa!
For that amount of money (I won’t state the amount, lest others want to be surprised) I can pay for my current gym membership for 9 months!!
Methinks I smell a scam.

holy ripoff, mr. lowbodyfat! i won’t give away the price for your other readers, but another thing I noticed is that they don’t have a cure beyond ‘eat healthier and excercise’ or the suitably ambiguous ‘take drugs to lower body weight’ (what like MyAlli?) or the generic surgical options. i wonder how many they’ve sold, though?

That makes two of us Tim, because they are asking a hell of a lot of money for someone to determine if they have a virus that reportedly 30% of obese people may have. Well, what about the other 70%? Thanks for leaving a comment …

How did Kevin Trudeau miss out on this scam? I sent an email to Dr. Novella he is an academic neurologist on full-time faculty at Yale University School of Medicine. and full-time skeptic. I hope he replies with some insight.

LOL! Keith, I was wondering the same thing because it seems a lot less risky and pretty much FTC-proof. Think about it; Ad-36 is an actual virus, and I believe that their kit will correctly identify if you have it. However, so what if you do have it? You’re obese with a virus and still need to follow the same protocol of eating less and moving more that we all have to follow, infected or not. So, you basically pay for a kit that detects a virus whose cure is free . You can’t tell me that Kevin Trudeau isn’t kicking himself for missing out on this one …

OMG! Who can afford this test in this crappy economy!?!
Hi Muata, long time lurker first time commenter.
Did you peep the cancellation fee? You pay even if you cancel the silly test. So if some desperate person already paid for this thing then read your helpful investigative research and tried to cancel, they still pay a heavy fee!
I think one thing that gets me is how the news has covered this without doing any further research to give a balanced reporting.
Imagine the equipment and amount of locally grown organic food folks can buy with the cost of this test, hell, the cost of the cancellation fee!
This, sir, is the ultimate hustle.

Geena, thanks for posting and lurking
No, I didn’t even notice the cancellation fee! Wow, so you pay for the test whether you change your mind or not. Unbelievable …. no, yes it’s believable because it’s a scam! You’re right. For the price of the test, I could easily build (or buy) a hydroponics or aquaponics system and probably provide enough organic veggies to feed my family and at least all my neighbors in my apartment building!
Geena, don’t let this be your first and last comment; feel free to post one anytime. Thanks again for your comment.

Muata, it’s even worse than you thought.
“In 1997, Dr Atkinson and Dr Nikhil Dhurandhar founded the Obetech Obesity Research Centre in Virginia to study Ad-36 and to try and develop the necessary technology to combat this virus.”

Just to be off topic for a moment. I just got back from my stress test at the hospital. I did the full 10 minutes on the treadmill and they seemed happy with my performance. I’ll know better when I go back and they have had time to analyse the results. The gal administering the test wasn’t hard on the eyes either.

No, that’s fine Keith. I’m glad that you are giving us an update. Let’s just hope that they take into account that you were being tested by a pretty woman, and how that may affect your stress test
Let us know what they say when they analyze the results.

Yea, :-/ well I agree that it may be a scam since that cost is just insane!!! I am a trainer and nutritionist, although I may not know it all, I know I know enough to lose, gain or maintain weight if needed. However, despite my efforts to control my weight, I have recently gained 37 pounds… “and climbing” and I am clueless to what it is…. all my blood tests are normal BTW, so I would be willing to atleast try this, if it were more affordable and believable.
