Well fellas, after much thought, I have finally made up my mind about which style of training I will focus 90-95% of my efforts into. After watching the Olympics and the outstanding physiques of the gymnasts, I have dedicated myself to becoming a physical culturists who will espouse the need for men (and women) to master their own bodyweight for fat loss, building muscle, or simply all around good health.
However, let me be clear that I’m not entering the silly debate about whether bodyweight training is better or superior to barbells, kettlebells, etc. Personally, I do not think that any fitness tool is superior to any other. They all work if used properly in conjunction with an intelligently designed training and nutrition program. So, before you drop your dumbbell or clubbell to send me an email, please re-read this paragraph again. As a matter of fact, I’m going to continue to complement my training with kettlebells and, of course, sandbags!
OK, that being said, I want to let you guys know that I plan on surfing the web and bringing you the best information on bodyweight training only sites, forums, and blogs that I can find. Once I’ve highlighted seven sites, I’m going to create a separate blogroll for them.
I’m really excited about this new series and hope that you guys get a chance to experience the wonderful world of bodyweight only exercises up close and personal. So, let’s start with our first spotlight:
This site was started and is maintained by Kevin McKay. In the About section of his site, he explains:
After wasting a lot of time and money I stumbled across some great sites that offer a wealth of very good, honest how-to information that was credible and not just a ploy to get me to buy things. I went from 212 to 175 while adding allot more muscle and have maintained it ever since.
Fortunately, Kevin didn’t want to keep his fat loss success tips to himself. He decided to start a website that’s full of tips on how to use bodyweight exercises to lose fat and build muscle. There is also a lot of information about basic nutrition that anybody can understand. In his own words, Kevin says that his site “is my effort to organize what I have found to work for other people like me without allot of time who want to get in shape in the most straightforward and effective way.”
After visiting his site, please come back and leave a comment to let me know what you think …

Nice site, and nice link.
Please keep the links and reviews coming. Especially with bodyweight regimens, which often emphasize reps or decreased mechanical advantage positions for sufficient challenge, injury prevention becomes key.
It’d be cool, to be able to lift someone off their feet by their lapels…but cooler still, to move your body through space in all planes, with confidence and control. Bodyweight adeptness, yeah!

Peter,
Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah, I really like the simplicity of the site, workouts, and the nutrition advice. Oh, and I agree that being able “to move your body through space in all planes with confidence and control” is something that I’m definitely going after. After watching G4′s “Ninja Warrior”, I’m convinced all I need is my own body’s weight! Thanks again for stopping by …

That’s awesome man! I’ve been trying to learn more about BWT but yeah… found a lot of links with people doing quite advanced things and no explanation of the basics. I’ve been hesitant to try lest I break my neck alone in my apartment! Not the way to go out!!!! Thanks again and great idea, I can’t believe you’re a prof. who finds time for this stuff.

I think the body weight routines are far better than any other method of training…unless your aim is pro-body building. What say? You usually work more than one muscle group in anyone exercise e.g. pushups…the king of body weight exercises..you work the chest, you triceps, shoulders, abs, lower back, the butt and if you do wide pushups you also engage your lats. More muscle groups, more EPOC, more HGH and testosterone – result -> fat loss

@Randy – I know what you’re talking about Randy because there was a time I felt the same way. Even though I can do hindu pushups and squats now, when I first say them, they were a bit intimidating. I really like the simplefit website because it’s programs are basic, yet effective. I’m glad you enjoyed the post, and let’s just say that I’m using WordPress’s scheduled post option to release posts on certain days for me. This gives me time to masquerade as a college prof during the day
@Usman – Yes Usman, this is what I keep telling folks. Unless you plan on becoming a bodybuilder, weightlifter, or strongman, there’s no need for you to ever touch a weight to get an incredible body. As I mentioned in this post, gymnasts have incredible physiques, which most guys would die to have, from doing the vast majority of their training from bodyweight exercises! Thanks for your comment …
